Culture diary
What I watched, read and heard this month
Three films, one series finished, two books, a concert at Zorlu PSM and a slow Sunday at Istanbul Modern. The highlight was the smallest thing: a documentary I almost skipped.
Milestones, trips, what we watched and read, and the ordinary days that turned out to matter. Written for us, left open for anyone. entries are samples
Culture diary
Three films, one series finished, two books, a concert at Zorlu PSM and a slow Sunday at Istanbul Modern. The highlight was the smallest thing: a documentary I almost skipped.
Food
Kadıköy’de yeni açılan bir yer: kalamar iyi, servis yavaş, manzara her şeyi affettiriyor. Hafta içi, teras kuyruk olmadığında tekrar gideceğiz.
film
Slow, quiet and very well lit. I watched it twice in one week, which I almost never do.
books
A slow novel about a harbour accountant who finds the numbers have been lying for thirty years. Quiet, precise, and the last forty pages earn every earlier one.
Family
They walked in holding hands and did not look back. We stood outside longer than they would have liked.
Books
[Title], [Author]. A short note on why it landed, and the one chapter I read twice. Read over three weeks of early mornings.
Travel, 3 days
Museums at a slow pace, one long walk along the river, Borough Market twice, and the best flat white of the year. Full itinerary, notes and what we would change.
Itinerary and practical notes
Theatre
[Play], at [venue]. We were home by eleven and both of us checked the baby monitor more than the stage.
Milestone
Two daughters, four minutes apart, both louder than expected. Everything on this site after this date was written by a different person.
Museums
Pera Museum, a long lunch, and the kind of aimless walk down to Karaköy that we knew would be rarer soon.
